Architecture Standards

In 2016 the Board of Directors approved updated Architecture Guidelines.

In accordance with the Covenants of the Association, the Board of Directors of the Strathmeade Square Community Association (SSCA) has adopted Architectural standards to ensure the continued fine appearance of the community. Please note that in every case where SSCA is mentioned it also encompasses the Board Architecture Committee, which normally has jurisdiction over matters pertaining to the exterior of the community.

Owners are responsible for their property regardless of whether it is owner occupied or leased. Therefore, they are responsible for all actions of their tenants. These standards are designed to assist owners with staying in conformance with community rules.

In many cases automatic approval is given for modification, particularly when it is a replacement in kind. However, often a modification request to the Board through its Architecture Committee is necessary before any change can be made. To make a request, an Architecture Modification (Appendix A) form must be submitted. This is done by completely filling out the form with necessary supporting information such as sketches, paint chips, etc., and submitting it to the management company who will forward it on for review. The SSCA then has 30 days to respond. If the owner does not receive a response within the 30-day period the request is considered approved.

Here you can find an electronic version of the Architecture Modification Request Form.

Parking Regulations

Each house has one marked parking space and is allowed to park in one permit spot if available. The blue permit should be displayed hanging from the rear view mirror. (For safety, make sure that the permit is removed while driving.) The permit is good only in the assigned court. Any resident who is parking more than two vehicles in the Court is in violation of the SSCA Parking Policy.

Residents are reminded that the parking policy of 2004-11-16 states that “anyone parked in a numbered homeowner space can be towed. Residents may tow unauthorized vehicles from their reserved space. Residents who initiate towing must make all arrangements with the tow company and assume all liability for wrongful towing.”

You will be blocking a fire lane or blocking in other residents’ vehicles. You are also subject to towing at your expense. There is a $10.00 fee for replacing a lost permit. Call Sequoia Management for details.

Trash Regulations

Kitchen trash is picked up Tuesdays and Fridays. Please wait until Monday night and Thursday night before putting it out. Kitchen trash should be placed outside your rear gate (not in front of your house), or along the Tobin or Beverly curb if your backyard faces one of those public streets.

Recycling trash is picked up only on Friday morning from the curb along Thompson, Beverly and Tobin and should not be put out until Thursday night.

Yard debris is being picked up Wednesdays between April and December. Although most of us work in their yards over the weekend please wait until Tuesday night to put it out – otherwise our community will look trashy half of the time.

Our trash contractor is not required to, and does not collect some kinds of items which include appliances and large pieces of furniture. For those, we have to arrange a special pick-up. Please call AAA Disposal at 703-818-8222 if you have items of this type to dispose of. You must dispose of “hazardous” materials yourself, including paint, by taking it to one of the two Fairfax County disposal stations. Old computers and monitors are usually considered “hazardous” because of some of the materials used in their manufacturing process. If you are unsure in regards to a specific item, the Fairfax County website provides a lot of help and details.

Here are the addresses of the two Fairfax County
disposal stations:

I-66 Transfer Station
4618 West Ox Road
Thursday 1-5 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

I-95 Sanitary Landfill

9850 Furnace Road
Thursday 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Can any body use the basketball courts?

    • alice says:

The basketball court next to the swimming court is available for use by Strathmeade Square residents. There is no reservation system but players generally work out a courteous way to share the court.

  2. Tony says:

The following is inaccurate: “To obtain a Homeowners packet, send $100 in a money order or
cashiers check payable to SSCA c/o Sequoia Management Co.” It’s a $245 with another $150 in misc. (seemingly unnecessary) fees.

  3. Rich Evert says:

Quite crazy $245 to copy a packet of papers. Is there anything the HOA can do to negotiate a lower cost? Why is this so expensive. Not happy with Sequoia.

  5. Margaret So says:

Is this a violation to our Home Owner Regulations that 3322 Breckenridge Ct. storaged a Business mini bus on his own private parking? Also, on the Exit of Beverly Drive to Tobin Road, there is an abandoned motor circle without attention already over two months. Please put the contact email addresses on the SSCA Newsletter for residents’ contact with the President or Vice President.

  6. Joel says:

Any rules to protect trees from children making it like a camping ground? Right at the very roots of the tree ground. We have children park where they can play. I know they are kids. I have my own but I tell them not to abuse trees and plants around. Can HOA put signs?
